Johnston Selected As Next Head Coach
Blackwood, NJ - After an extensive search, Tom Johnston has been selected as the next Head Coach of Camden County College Baseball.
"We are excited to announce the hiring of Mr. Tom Johnston as our new Head Baseball Coach pending Board approval," states Bill Banks, Director of Athletics. The Baseball program has seen continous success making the Region XIX Tournament 15+ years in a row and we expect this trend to continue with Coach Johnston at the helm. Coach Johnston had this to say about being selected as the Head Coach, "I am honored to take over for former Head Coach John Merkh for the 2019 season. We will look to continue the overall academic and athletic success of the baseball program and continue to build upon the historical success of the program." Johnston will take over for the Spring 2019 season as former Head Coach John Merkh took a position as Assitant Coach/Pitching Coach at Stockton University.
Johnston graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester, NJ in 2001. He returned to the Rams as a Varsity Assistant coach in 2013. During his time at GC the Rams were 127-22-1. They were crowned State Champions in 2013 and 2017. Johnston is also the Owner/President of Mid Atlantic Baseball Academy in Lindenwold, NJ. He has been the Head Coach of the College Prep team since 2014 and has played a integral part in getting 78 players to the next level. Johnston has a winning attitude as well as an understanding of what it takes to get players to stay engaged both athletically and academically.
