Cougars Sweep Owls of Union CC!

After dropping two games earlier in the week to Division II Sussex and #3 Nationally Ranked RCGC the Cougars looked to get back into the win colum in a Region XIX DH matchup with Union CC. The Cougars did not let their fans down as they swept the Owls in the two game set picking up their 18th and 19th wins on the year. In Game 1 the Cougars defeated the Owl's by a score of 15-7 and to complete the sweep Game 2 was won by a score of 8-5. the Cougars improve to 19-7 on the year and 7-3 in Region XIX play.

In Game 1 the Cougars bats were hot as So. MINF Ryan Swift led the way with 4 rbi's followed by reigning National POTW Josh Ritchie and Noah Angstadt who each had 3 rbi's. Fr. Catcher Anthony Buffone had 2 rbi's followed by Elias Agostini, Dante Serchia and Dalton Penix who each had 1 a piece. Two Cougars ran wild on the base path as NJCAA DIII stolen base leader Robin Santos swiped 5 bases and Freshman Jorge Liranzo had 5.

In Game 2, Robin Santos swiped 4 more bags to up is National lead to 37 stolen bases on the season. Dante Serchia led the way for the Cougars with 3 rbi's, followed by Anthony Buffone with 2 and the combo of Mark Kearney and Elias Agostini each has 1. Sophomore 3B Noah Angstadt came into the game in relief and went 5.2 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits and striking out 3 Owls and walking 1. Sophomore Closer William Lintner took the mound in the top of the 9th to close the door on the game, striking out 2 batters and picking up his 3rd save on the year. Lintner now boast a 1.59 ERA in the closers roll with 12 strikeouts in 11.1 innings thrown.

The cougars will be back in action on Tuesday as the host the #2 Nationally ranked Dukes of Cumberland County College at 3:30pm!
