Women’s Basketball Dominates Ocean County to Continue Their Stellar Season
Camden County College Women’s Basketball started off the New Year on an eight-game-win-streak. After dropping two on the road, Lady Cougars are back on their feet after a dominating performance at Ocean County College last night.
Blackwood, NJ- Camden County College Women's Basketball started off the New Year with an eight-game-win-streak. After dropping two on the road, Lady Cougars are back on their feet after a dominating performance at Ocean County College last night.
Camden County College Women's Basketball defeated Ocean County College last night with a final score of 88-27. Freshman Chloe Crago scored 25 points, grabbed 6 steals and 4 assists. Sophomore Amia Green led the game
defensively with 7 rebounds and scored 14 points. Sophomore Kayla Franklin contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists.
The Lady Cougars kicked their game into overdrive at the start of the New Year and their ability to adapt their play to high scoring teams has carried them a long way. Head Coach Chip Reitano stated after a big win over DII Juco WVU Potomac that, " We knew we had to play good defense from beginning to end, and I feel we really executed our game plan, and that's where we won the game".
Lady Cougars have grabbed many accolades along the way:
Freshman Forward Chloe Crago was named NJCAA DIII Player of the Week after averaging 24.5 points in a week, made the top 20 list in 3pt- field goal percentage and the top 25 list in steals per game. Currently, Crago is 1st in the region with an average of 22.3 ppg and 423 points on the season so far.
Kayla Franklin was named GSAC DIII Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her leadership and defensive consistency. "She did an amazing job on the defensive end, controlling the boards and protecting the rim", Region 19 wrote after Franklins' efforts led Camden to wins over Salem CC and Sussex CC, earlier in the season.
Head Coach Chip Reitano reached a huge milestone with Camden County College Women's Basketball, 100 Career Wins. A milestone that alumni, Cougar fans and family traveled to witness.
Last Thursday night, Cougars fought hard in what NJCAA Region 19 labeled as "Woman's Game of the Year". Despite a 70-72 loss, Cougars put on a stellar performance. Chloe Crago put up 20 pts, 10reb, 6 assists and 5 steals. Kayla Franklin tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Camden County College Women's Basketball are seated third in the Region with a 7-2 record and are 13-6 overall. They are back on the court Thursday, February 15 at Princeton (Club) as they hope for another win before they make a run for the playoffs.
