Congratulations to The Camden County Cougars Women's Tennis team, who had a successful run at the NJCAA National Tournament in Peachtree City, GA this past weekend, November 1-3. Camden CC placed 4th behind 6-time winner Emory of Oxford, Northampton and SUNY Broome. There were ten teams competing.
Our women represented Camden County College in the best possible way by playing their highest level tennis of the season and displaying exemplary sportsmanship in all situations, win or lose!
1st singles player Rebecca Ballier (FR) made it all the way through but lost to Emory in the finals. Ballier will be named to the NJCAA All-American 2nd Team at 1st Singles!
At 2nd singles Anisa Judah-Shorter battled several injuries but still earned the team much needed points by winning the consolation round of the tournament.
3rd singles Litzy Catalan-Diaz made it into the semi-finals where she faced national champion Emory, but finished the tournament in 4th place after a very tough play-off battle against Illinois Valley.
4th singles Cora Chang struggled with a serious elbow injury but fought hard and made it to the semi-finals, earning the team important points.
5th singles Jazmine Cruz-Barrera, having played 6th last year, came up against a very competitive Illinois Valley player in the first round but after a strong start, couldn't hold her off.
6th singles Cindy Flores had a tough first round match but came up strong in the consolation round and earned the team some critical points by beating a very good number 6 from SUNY Broome.
At 1st Doubles, Camden's Ballier and Judah-Shorter gave the Emory team a real fight going up 4-3 in the first set but the national champions Emory turned up the heat and won 6-4, 6-1. These players will also be named to the NJCAA All-American 2nd team.
