Men's and Women's Basketball set to compete in the Region XIX Tournament
On Wednesday Night the 2018 Region XIX Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament seeding was announced.
At the Region XIX Athletic Director Meeting on Wednesday, February 21st the Region Administration conducted a live streaming of the seeding of the 2018 Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament. "This was a great exprience for the Region XIX Athletic Administrators as well as a great experience for the student-athletes. A special thanks should be given to Northampton CC Athletic Director, Troy Tucker for his preparation and work in pulling this first ever live streaming for tournament seeding," states Camden County College Director of Athletics William Banks.
The Lady Cougars who finished the year 21-7 overall under Head Coach Chip Reitano recieved the #3 overall seed in the tournament and will host the #6 seed Spartans of Northampton on Monday night at 6pm in the Cougar Den. Coach Chip Reitano is also a Finalist for the ECBWA Coach of the Year. The two teams met earlier in the year with the Lady Cougars dominating the Lady Spartans winning 75-55. The Lady Cougars are led by Sophomores Layne Olsen and Asya Alba. The Lady Spartans have an impressive guard in Dom Moser who is the Nations #2 leading scorer at 28.6 points per game. This should be an impressive First Round matchup in this years Region XIX Tournament. The winner will advance to the Semi Finals on Saturday, March 3rd at Northampton Community College.
On the Men's side, the Cougars under Head Coach Lou Abbattista finished the year 16-14 and recieved the #7 overall seed and will host the #10 seed Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College on Sunday afternoon at 3pm in the Cougar Den. Coach Lou Abbattista's past teams have almost always found a way to creep in to the Semi Finals or Finals in each of the last 3 years. The Cougars are led by the Sophomore Duo of Justin Williams who is averaging around 14.5 ppg and Sanoussi Abdourhamane who is averaging a double-double on the year at 16 ppg and 11 rpg. The Hawks are a very scrappy team that has high energy and like to press. They are led by a collective group of players, they have four players that are averaging double figures for points. The Couars have the size advantage in this game but the Hawks have the scrappiness. Another high quality Region XIX Tournament First Round Matchup. The winner of this game Sunday will face the #2 Overall Seed in the Roadrunners of RCGC. If the Cougars advance to face RCGC it will setup the 3rd time in 4 years that the two teams have squared of in the 1st or 2nd round of the Region XIX Tournament.
