Wayne Merkh Named Head Coach For Track and Field
After a thorough search, Wayne Merkh has been named the Head Coach for Men's and Women's Track and Field.
Blackwood, NJ - Wayne Merkh has been named the Head Coach of Camden County College Men's and Women's Track and Field and will help bring back the sport after a 30 plus year absences.
A graduate of Haddon Township High School, Merkh was on the first-ever State Championship Cross Country and Track teams.
Merkh is a member of the Haddon Township Athletic Hall of Fame, was a distance runner, who specialized in the mile. When he graduated, he held the school record of 4:19.1. After graduation Merkh attended Camden County College and was a member of two straight undefeated cross country teams. In addition, he was also a member of the Track and Field Team were he ran the anchor leg on the Chamnpionship Penn Relay and Region XIX mile relay teams. At CCC Merkh was an NJCAA National qualifier and All Region XIX Team twice. At the time he set the school record of 4:14.78 in the mile run, while placing 11th at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in Mesa, Arizona during his sophomore year. His mile record stood until current record holder, CCC Athletic Hall of Famer Larry Schmelia broke it. After a tremendous career at Camden County College, Merkh went on to continue his academic and athletic career at Glassboro State University (now Rowan University). He was a two-time All-Conference performer in Cross Country and Track. He was also the Track Teams MVP both years.
Coach Merkh previously coached Cross Country and Track in High School at Holy Cross and Audubon. In 2014 he became the Head Cross Country Coach for Camden County College, a position he still holds. "Merkh has been a driving factor for the revival of the Track and Field Program and we are excited to have someone of his coaching ability take the helm and revive the program," states Director of Athletics, William Banks.
