CAMDEN WBB FALL SHORT IN TIGHT BATTLE WITH MONTCO
Lady Cougars Drop Tightly Contested Matchup
Blackwood, NJ -- Lady Cougars Drop Tightly Contested Matchup
Camden County College Lady Cougars (3-2) came into their first true road game poised and ready to take on a strong Montgomery CC squad (3-1), but ultimately came up just short, falling 44–43.
Camden came into the matchup determined off a strong win in the final stages last week, looking to replicate their play on the road. They started off the game well and were able to create a slim lead going into the 2nd quarter. However, the second quarter proved to be a different story as the Lady Cougars suffered one of their lowest point totals for a quarter this year, scoring just 4 points, resulting in a halftime 24-17 deficit.
After halftime, the Lady Cougars responded, scoring 14 points to Montco's 8. Their strong play on both sides of the ball in the 3rd allowed them to close the gap and go into the final quarter down by just one which set the stage for what was going to be a thrilling 4th quarter. Interestingly enough, both teams were fairly even matched, registering the same point total (12) which unfortunately resulted in a 1-point loss for the Cougars.
Overall, shooting woes (8-14 FT, 1/12 3PM/A), turnovers (15) and foul trouble hindered the Lady Cougars ability to outlast the Mustangs and led to the tough result.
Sophomore Guards, Erica Paranzino (Washington Township, NJ) & Clara Pons de vall Ruiz (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) led the way, combining for a total of 22 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 11 steals.
Lady Cougars return to action this Thursday, as they take on Allegany College of Maryland at 6pm.
